Rape victim's death: Case against five policemen registered

MUZAFFARGARH: On the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, a case was registered against five policemen on Sunday for their negligence in a rape case after the victim died after committing self-immolation the other day, ARY News reported Sunday.

An 18-year-old Amina Bibi died a day after setting herself on fire outside a police station in the district of Muzaffargarh when police dropped charges against those accused of attempting to rape her.

Shahbaz had visited Muzaffargarh on Saturday and ordered IG police Punjab to register case against the responsible police officers.

In the light of CM’s directives, a case was lodged against two DSPs, two SHOs and an investigation officer at Bait Meer Hazar police station. Local people expressed their serious resentment over the issue, especially after police refused to lodge a case against culprits.

Among the five negligent cops, former SHO Muhammad Idress and an investitgation officer were arrested on Saturday, while the three officers are at large.
