Rasheed contacts political leaders on CEC's appointment

ISLAMABAD: Information Minister, Pervez Rasheed on Friday contacted different political leaders pertaining to the appointment of new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), while Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) also proposed four names for the key post, ARY News reported.

According to details, MQM after prolonged consultation on Friday decided to present the names of Justice (R) Nasir Aslam Zahid, Justice (R) Rana Bhagwan Das, Justice (R) Ghous Muhammad and Justice (R) Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, to the federal government for appointment as the new CEC.

MQM chief, Altaf Hussain has also endorsed the decision.

Earlier to this, PM Nawaz Sharif had tasked the Information Minister, Pervez Rasheed to contact leaders of the opposition parties regarding CEC’s appointment.

Rasheed made telephonic contacts with the emir of Jamat e Islami (JI), Sirajul Haq, Maulana Fazlur Rahman, Hasil Bizenjo, QWP head Aftab Sherpao, MQM’s Babar Khan Ghouri and Haji Adeel of ANP.

The Information Minister during his conversations briefed political leaders about the appointment of the new CEC.

On this occasion, some political leaders also complained about the rigging of elections in the past.
