ISLAMABAD: Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed has said all important measures would be taken to reduce revenue deficit being faced by the Pakistan Railways (PR).
Talking to media persons after offering Eidul Azha prayers here, he said it was unfortunate that half of the corruption cases being dealt with by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) pertained to the Railways. He had been assigned the task to streamline the affairs of Railways, he added.
The minister said he wanted to remove the corruption from the country. At least 25 commissions were needed to completely wipe out the menace, he added.
To a question, he said if the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) succeeded to deliver on at least 15 per cent of its pledges, it would be enough to satisfy the people about its performance.
Couple of days ago, Rasheed vowed to work hard for the uplift of Pakistan Railways.
The minister said the railways is facing deficit of millions of rupees and he will work to cut down this deficit.
The 20-member cabinet of Prime Minister Imran Khan was sworn in at President House on Monday. President Mamnoon Hussain administered oath to the federal cabinet. Mr Khan was also present on the occasion.
The federal cabinet comprises 20 members of which 15 are ministers while five others will discharge their duties as advisers to the premier.
Sheikh Rasheed, who heads the Awami Muslim League (AML), was given the portfolio of the railway minister as he previously held the same portfolio under the Musharraf regime.
