Consensus candidate for Senate’s top slot Mian Raza Rabbani of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) was nominated unanimously by the government and the opposition for the office.

Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif has felicitated Mian Raza Rabbani over his unopposed election for the top slot of the Upper House.

Veteran politician Mian Raza Rabbani has served as the leader of the House in the Senate during PPP tenure. He also served as Federal Minister for Law. He was also chairman of the committee which drafted the 18th and 19th amendments in the constitution.

The chances for unopposed election of deputy chairman of the upper house of Parliament have vanished as three candidates Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri of Jamiatul-Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), Shibli Faraz of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) and Jamal Dini competing for the post.
