Process to recover looted money underway: Shahzad Akbar

ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Accountability, Mirza Shahzad Akbar, said on Wednesday that recovery of looted money [by past rulers] from the national treasure was underway, ARY News reported Wednesday.

Speaking in the ARY News programme, Akbar said PM bore expenses of his house security, renovation outside his residence and other related works.  “We cannot find an example of better leadership than Imran Khan,” he stated.

Commenting on the meeting of Nawaz Sharif and Bilawal Bhutto, he said such meetings were an attempt to prevent being caught from corruption.

Akbar said names of all bigwigs would be unearthed once the case was taken up by the court.

He said the NAB case against Mian Mansha pertains to money laundering. “Mian Mansha needs to prove his version of transferring money abroad.” He said situation would be clearer once Mina Mansha submits the money trail.

Akbar said Rs 537 million had been deposited to the national exchequer so far.

“It is yet to be seen whether in what heads the money was transferred abroad”, he added.

He said it was hoped that more than Rs 7 billion would be garnered during the government action against money launderers. He said land around 11,000 acres was either benami or encroached.
