Relatives of missing persons end sit-in after govt assurance

ISLAMABAD: Relatives of missing persons ended on Friday their 5-day long sit-in after assurance by the government representative, ARY News reported.

Member National Assembly and parliamentary secretary on interior, Maryam Aurangzeb, arrived at the protest camp at D-Chowk and held negotiations with relatives of missing persons. She said investigations were underway against maltreatment doled out to them (protesters) in Islamabad.

She assured of arranging their meeting with the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Following the assurance, chairperson of Defence of Human Rights Group Amina Masood Janjua announced to end sit-in protest, saying she respected constitution and abided by law.

She hoped that a meeting with the PM would be arranged and government would subsequently take steps to recover the missing persons.
