KARACHI: With different anti-polio campaigns to stamp out the lingering disease from the country, Pakistan still registered 56 cases of polio in the ongoing year, ARY News reported Tuesday,
The capital of Khyber Pakhtonkhwa, Peshawar, is considered the epicentre of polio where frequent attacks on anti-polio teams have hampered the immunisation campaign many a times.
On Tuesday (today), three more cases were reported with two from North Waziristan and one South Waziristan
At least 56 children fell prey to polio this year. Ironically, over 30 cases of the total are reported from areas where anti-polio drive could not be held for various reasons.
According to World Health Organisation, the 90 percent of the polio virus was genetically connected with Peshawar.
