LAHORE: A convention of prominent clerics has urged the government and Taliban to announce ceasefire immediately, ARY News reported on Saturday.

The gathering of the religious leaders in Lahore urged the two sides in a joint statement to avoid the use of force during the ongoing peace process and pursue negotiations to restore peace in Pakistan.

The gathering of religious leaders discouraged the use of a military option against Taliban and called the talks a durable solution for peace.

Samiul Haq, a member of Taliban talks committee, called the peace talks the only viable solution and said that the war can never bring peace.
