SHEIKHUPURA: Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested a female member of a “romance fraud” gang in Sheikhupura district of Punjab province, ARY News reported.

The woman confessed before police and media that she befriended people in order to help her gang members kidnap them for ransom.

She maintained that her gang members kidnapped at least eight men with her help and received at least two million rupees in ransom.

“They befriended me and at that time I didn’t know they were in this business. They asked me to befriend people and send them to their desired destination (in hopes of meeting her) and then kidnapped them,” said the suspect.

The woman, however, said that she too was being blackmailed by the male members and the leader of gang as they knew everything about her, from her address to her phone number.

“They knew everything about me, my address, phone number, everything,” the suspect added while talking to ARY News.

Police say two of her gang members Shaukat and Mehar Jatoi are still at large and the police is conducting raids for their arrest.
