Saad receives 9 more locomotives manufactured by US, China
KARACHI: Nine more locomotives manufactured with the cooperation of the United States (US) and China, have reached here on Saturday, whilst five locomotives had reached earlier, setting the figure up to 14 out of a total of 58 engines required by Pakistan Railways (PR) – ARY News reports.
According to details, Federal Minister of Railways, Khwaja Saad Rafique himself received nine more locomotives at the Karachi Port, out of a total of 58 engines, whereas 5 engines were delivered a few days ago. He told that the railways require 400 new engines to run goods trains countrywide and the locomotives acquired cost $1.96 million per engine, whilst the same engine costs $3.45 million.
Rafique further said that for the maintenance of these locomotives, 50 junior technicians are sent abroad for training purpose.
Speaking about attacks on passenger trains, the Minister for Railways told that after an identification of sensitive railway tracks, police patrol has been increased there three times, however the provincial government are also liable to provide security to the trains.
Commenting on Pervez Musharraf, Saad Rafique said that the former President has reached the seashore and only the Karachiites know where he is to be sent.
