Sartaj stresses to make SAARC more effective and dynamic

MALDIVES: Adviser to Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz has pledged to concentrate for the solution of issues affecting the entire region in order to make South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) more efficient and active, ARY News reported.

He expressed these views while addressing the 35th session of SAARC ministerial meeting in Male‚ Maldives on Thursday.                                 

Amongst other issues, focus of the discussions was on streamlining and rationalizing the SAARC process based on the Study conducted by the SAARC Secretariat as well as the role, status and engagement of Observer states in SAARC program and activities.              

The Advisor also highlighted the importance of active participation by all SAARC Member States in its activities and the added benefit of involving Observer states as dialogue partners.

Besides SAARC ministerial meeting, the meeting of the Standing Committee was also held to review SAARC performance of previous two years.
