ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday granted the plea of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to change the schedule of local bodies polls in Sindh and Punjab provinces, ARY News reports.
A bench of the apex court cancelled the earlier schedule for local government elections, which was issued by the ECP on November 12, 2013.
Secretary of the election commission has said that the local bodies polls in cantonment areas and federal capital Islamabad will be held on the fixed date.
Secretary ECP Ishtiak Ahmed Khan has said that the new constituencies will be formed as per the court orders. He said the commission could not announce the new schedule of the local bodies elections immediately.
Moreover, Punjab has formally announced postponement of the local bodies polls in the province.
