SC bars PHC from forming a probe commission in Mashal Khan case

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court on Wednesday forbids Peshawar High Court (PHC) from constituting a judicial commission in Mashal Khan murder case and urged for keeping confidence over the investigation agencies and ensuring justice in the case, ARY News reported.

A three-member bench led by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar heard the suo moto case pertaining to lynching of Mashal Khan, a student of journalism, at Abdul Wali Khan University in Mardan.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakthunkhwa (KP) Salahuddin Mehsud said that initial investigation in the case has been completed, however, police needs more time to compile the report.

The bench queried PHC the motive behind establishing an inquiry commission by stating that the court would ensure justice in the case.

The request of judicial commission in the PHC was filed by provincial chief minister Pervez Khattak.

The apex court adjourned the hearing of the case till April 27.

Moreover, police has claimed to arrest two more suspects of the lynching incident from Charsadda. The arrested suspects were identified as Tariq Khan and Ishaq Khan.
