SC constitutes 3-member committee to probe self-immolation case
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday constituted a three-member committee to probe the case of a rape victim who died after committing self- immolation the other day, ARY News reported.
The 3-member committee will be headed by DIG. Chief Justice Tasaduq Hussain Jillani, presiding over a 3-member bench, issued these orders in a suo motu case.
The CJ remarked that the negligence of police was clearly evident in the incident.
The court also sought report from the police in 10 days.
During the hearing, the CJ stated that investigation and attitude of the police was not up-to-the-mark.
IG Punjab, while confirming a sexual assault with the girl, told the court that the negligent SHO had already been arrested.
Justice Khilji Arif Hasan asked why the girl was compelled for self-immolation even in the presence of police.
IG told the court that miscreant’s brother had a love marriage with Aamna.
The chief justice observed that the girl could have been saved had timely measures were taken by the authorities.
Fve men had kidnapped the 17-year-old college student at gunpoint and sexually assaulted her.
