SC orders govt not to withdraw subsidy on power

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered the government not to withdraw subisidy on power. It also  declared additional nine percent sales tax on the electricity as unlawful and unconstitutional. 

A three-judge bench of the apex court also ordered reduction in petroleum prices in its verdict in power load shedding and petroleum prices case today. 

The court in its decision observed that under Article 30 of the constitution it is government’s responsibility to ensure welfare of the citizens. The learned court also observed that the problem of power load shedding could be resolved with sincere efforts. 

The bench also directed the concerned authority to use modern technology to avoid the power losses.
