SC orders Sargodha varsity’s ex-VC to submit record of appointments

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday ordered University of Sargodha’s former vice chancellery Professor Muhammad Akram to submit recorded of the appointments made in his tenure as a head of the university within 15 days.

A three-member bench of the SC headed by Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed heard the illegal recruitment case against former VC Muhammad Akram, filed by the National Accountability Bureau.

 During the course of proceedings, NAB’s prosecutor apprised the court that Dr Muhammad Akram had made 369 illegal appointments in his tenure.

Justice Azmat Saeed asked whether advertisements were published for recruitment.

Dr Akram’s counsel said that all the appointments were made after completing all the legal formalities and added that advertisements were issued in this regard.

The NAB’s prosecutor said that total 1744 people were recruited in his tenure, out of which 369 people were appointed without any advertisement and termed it violation of rules.

Dr Akram’s counsel pleaded the court to give some time for submission of entire recruitment record. The court accepted his plead and adjourned the hearing for 15 days.
