Scotland Yard confirms ‘authenticity’ of document related to Sarfaraz Merchant
The Scotland Yard today confirmed the authenticity of Sarfaraz Merchant’s statement to London Metropolitan Police.
Officials said the document surfacing with regard to Sarfaraz Merchant’s statement is part of police record, however the release of the document in media will affect the investigations of the case.
The document related to Sarfaraz Merchant – one of the suspects in money laundering case – had a mention of MQM’s receiving of funds from India, while such kind of funding is also considered a violation of British laws.
The pre-interview briefing issued on the letterhead of London Metropolitan Police also contained the names of officials Stuart Mathews and Stephen Waterworth.
The document suggests that the interview was recorded on April 15, 2015, while Merchant in his word with ARY News also confirmed the authenticity of it.
