Second anniversary of Gyari Incident today

The second anniversary of the Gyari Incident is being observed in the country today.

The Gyari Incident took place on the night between 6th and 7th April. A 80 ft. high and one kilometre long avalance struck a Headquarters of the battalion of Nothern Light Infantry at the world's highest battleground Siachen Glacier. Around 128 military men and 12 civilians were trapped in the avalanche

The military check post is situated 13,000 ft high at the disputed Siachen Glacier.

After the incident, Pakistan Army initiated a search operation which went on for nearly two months. On 29th May 2012, all the soldiers were declared martyrs.

Civilian and military leadership paid a tribute to the people killed in the unfortunate incident. The bereaved families laid a floral wreath and offered Fateha on the graves of the martyrs.
