Security forces arrest 27 in raids, seize cache of weapons

RAWALPINDI: Twenty-seven suspects were apprehended in joint raids carried out by the personnel of Pakistan Rangers, Punjab and other law enforcement agencies in different cities of the province, according to a statement issued by Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Saturday.

Extensive intelligence based operations (IBOs) were carried out in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Multan, DG Khan, Lahore, Sialkot, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan, which led to the arrest of 27 suspects, said the military’s media wing. A cache of illegal weapons was recovered from the possession of the arrested suspects, the statement added.

The statement further said that the paramilitary troops in coordination with other law enforcement agencies are maintaining law and order situation in Punjab.

Rangers along with police carried out patrolling and flag marches in important areas of the major cities and Quick Reaction Forces have also been put on high alert near the sensitive areas, it added.

Earlier on Sept 9, the security agencies had conducted raids in Autto Khel area of Mohmand tribal region and Battan village of Wari Tehsil in Upper Dir. During the raid, a large cache of arms and ammunition including machine guns, mortars, rocket launchers, hand grenades, explosive material and communication equipment were recovered.
