'Sehat Ka Ittehad' brings PTI and PML-N together

TOP NEWS

According to the health officials PML-N and PTI had joined hands in this mission to eradicate polio from the world’s largest reservoirs of polio.

It seems like Chairman PTI has taken the governance of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to prove his mettle. The ceremony for this ‘Sehat ka Ittehad’ campaign will be held in Governor House where Governor KPK Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan and Chief Minister Pervez Khattak will also be present.

When the world is on the verge of eradicating this crippling disease, Pakistan stands among those three countries where polio remains endemic. World Health Organization, UNICEF and other international donor agencies have been insisting the government of Pakistan and KPK on unified effort in these places for the eradication. Apparently both the parties have finally realized that there is no room for laxity in this matter and they need to agree on one point to end this virus in our region.

This campaign seeks to immunize children of three tribal agencies and 10 districts of KPK.  According to the sources a total of 12 one-day rounds will be held for the immunization of 2.5 million children against nine vaccine-preventable childhood ailments including polio.

While giving the details regarding the campaign the health minister of KPK Shahram Khan Tarakai said, “We need to work together in the larger interest of the country, last week the apex committee of the National Action Plan approved the plan to safeguard children in the high-risk areas. About 300 health camps will be held in the selected districts and agencies.”

It has been proven that FATA is the hub of transmitting this crippling virus to KP children. As more than 90% of the polio cases in the country are genetically linked with this region a joint effort was needed to boost the vaccination for eradication. The drive would be carried out on the same pattern as it was conducted last year in the assistance of Pakistan Army and the campaign will target those children who were previously inaccessible due to security situation.
