Senate opposition advises govt to avoid confrontation

ISLAMABAD: The government in a statement at the floor of Senate informed the house that the military has not been deployed in Islamabad to control the rallies but troops summoned to secure the sensitive points in the federal capital, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

Minister for parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab while winding up the debate on enforcement of Article 245 in the federal capital said that all political parties are agreed over the continuation of democracy.

Opposition senators Rehman Malik, Afrasiab Khattak and Taj Haider urged the government to avoid confrontation and resolve the issue with democratic means.

Earlier, the opposition staged walkout from the session to protest against absence of ministers in the house.

Chairman Nayyar Hussain Bukhari adjourned the house proceedings for half an hour after the walkout.
