LAHORE:  Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid-e-Azam) Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed on Sunday stepped down from his seat in the Senate and rejoined the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N).

The senator called on former premier and PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif today at his Lahore residence at the latter’s invitation, where he decided to join the ruling party.

He reportedly accepted Sharif’s offer to join the party and said he will be a part of the struggle for sanctity of vote and supremacy of the Constitution.

Close aides of the former premier, including Railway Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique and Senator Pervez Rasheed, as well as his daughter Maryam Nawaz were also present during the meeting.

Mushahid announced to have resigned from membership of the Senate ahead of end of his tenure in the upper house of parliament. He has sent his resignation to the PML-Q head Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.

He is among those 52 senators whose tenure is to end on March 11, this year.

Mushahid remained information minister in the previous PML-N government in 1999, but later switched loyalty to join PML-Q.

Of late, he was relieved of his position as parliamentary leader of the PML-Q in the upper house by his party on disciplinary grounds.

The party took action against him over his going against the party policy during crucial voting on the 24th Constitution Amendment Act in the Senate.
