Police have produced the accused, Muhammad Imran, before the ATC amid stern security measures.

During the proceedings, police pleaded for a 15-day physical remand for interrogation. However, the ATC judge granted a 14-day remand of the accused.

Imran will now be presented before the court on February 8.

Sharing details regarding “14 days of relentless efforts” which led to the arrest of the suspect, Shahbaz said 1150 DNA profiles were taken to match the DNA obtained from the crime scene to trace out the culprit.

DNA testing and polygraph test proved that Imran was the culprit behind the horrific rape and murder of the minor girl, he said.

He said Zainab’s father, public and even he himself demanded public hanging of the culprit and pleads that the court grant him an exemplary punishment.

Zainab was abducted on January 04 from Kasur’s Kot Road area. Five days after her disappearance, she was found raped, dead and buried in a garbage dump on Jan 09.

Zainab’s rape and murder shattered the entire nation, triggering widespread public outrage with people from all walks of life demanding an exemplary punishment for the perpetrator.
