24 die in rain-related incidents in Punjab

According to details, heavy rains lashed various cities of Punjab including Lahore on Wednesday, bringing respite in heatwave but claimed lives of around a dozen people.

Roofs of two houses also collapsed in the wake of downpours in the Chah Miran in the Punjab capital, thus killing a minor child. Similarly in Sialkot and Gujranwala, four people including two children died when a roof of a house caved in. While at least four people were injured in house collapse when they were trapped beneath the rubble.

Most of thoroughfares were inundated while outskirt areas were completely submerged.  Vehicular traffic as well as ambulances remained stranded on streets for long hours. More to the woes of citizens, several electricity feeders also tripped, leading to power disconnection in most of the areas.

Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has ordered the administration to immediately take rescue measures to prevent further damage following heavy rains in the province.

He has also announced Rs. five Lac aid for the families of each deceased and Rs. One Lac aid for each injured.
