LAHORE: Several workers and representatives of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) were arrested a day ahead of PAT Chairman Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri’s return to Pakistan, ARY News reports on Sunday.
PAT workers were reportedly taken into custody in Lahore, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Attock, Khanewal, Gujranwala and many other cities.
According to a spokesperson of PAT, the arrests are being made to stop the people from welcoming Tahir-ul-Qadri on his return to the country.
He further said that eight party workers including Sajid Bhatti, Ahmad Nawaz and Shaukat Abbasi were arrested under the pretext of negotiations.
“We will not be discouraged by the acts of the government and Tahir-ul-Qadri will be strongly welcomed”, the spokesman said.
