KARACHI: Several parts of Karachi plunged into darkness after a major breakdown took place in the electricity supply system of K-Electric, ARY News reported.
A unit of Bin Qasim power generation plant and an extra high tension line of K-Electric developed ‘a technical fault. Almost 40 percent of the megapolis was deprived of electricity supply for several hours since 5:00pm in the evening.
The affected areas include Old City areas, FC Area, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, Karimabad, DHA Phase IV, North Karachi, Korangi, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, FB area, Moosa Colony, Malir, PIB colony and other parts of the city.
A KE spokesman said some of the grids were affected due to technical fault and KE staff was busy in power restoration work.
He said electricity supply will soon be restored in the city. The spokesperson also clarified that contrary to media reports, electricity supply to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center was continued uninterrupted.
