BHITSHAH: Annual celeberations of the Urs of Sufi saint Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai begins at shrine town of Bhitshah today, ARY News reported on Wednesday.

Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani inaugurated the urs by laying floral wreat at the grave of Shah Bhittai in Bhitshah.

The devotees reaching Bhitshah to participate in 270th annual urs celebrations of Sindh’s great sufi poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai. A large number of devotees have thronged in Bhitshah at National Highway near Hala, the centre of traditional Sindhi handicrafts. 

The government of Sindh has announced public holiday in the province on the occasion. 

The chief guest will also inaugurate a cultural exhibition. A cultural village will be set up in Bhitshah. The folk poets (Sughar) will present their poetry in traditional Sindhi forms.

Sindhi wrestlers (Malh pehlwans) will flex their muscles in a Malakhro (traditional wrestling competition) in the evening.

In the night of the first day of celebrations singers would recite mystic poetry of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai. The musicians will celebrate the music on all the three nights of the Urs.

International Literary Conference will be held on the second day of Urs in which writers from Sindh and across the world will present their papers on the literary work of Shah Bhitai.

The Latif Awards distribution ceremony will be held on the third day of the Urs.
