He was addressing a session in the Sindh Assembly, where he said that law and order problems have persisted in Karachi since a long time. He insisted that the current government had made considerable improvements to bring peace to the metropolitan city.

He said that the murder of Amjad Sabri was deeply regrettable and expressed deep sorrow over it. He announced to offer a job to the widow of Sabri and a grant of Rs10 million to his family.

Shah said that he was not a psychic to predict when the murderers of Sabri will be arrested. He said that the people had appreciated the improvement in the law and order situation, before the kidnapping of Owais Shah, the son of SHC Chief Justice, and the assassination of Amjad Sabri.

He said that the Police was under their legal control, but the Rangers was a federal paramilitary force and was not under the control of the Sindh government. However, he asserted that he was the captain of the ongoing operation in the city.

“The Sindh government has assured that law-enforcement agencies there will be no interference in their operations,” he said. He lamented that some federal institutions had misused their authority after raiding the Sindh Board of Revenue (BOR) and land departments, and seized confidential files and documents without permission.

He said that the officers in the Sindh government were being threatened and blackmailed after the raids. He said that they had complained to Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan who also expressed reservations over the operations of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

He said that 400 police officers and 40 Rangers officials lost their lives during the operations. Therefore, the Sindh government had designated Rs60 billion for the law and order situation in the city.

While speaking over the successes of his government, he said that they have solved the Nishtar Park incident. It was previously unsafe to travel on the Super Highway but now commuters are unfazed. Even the situation has improved as previously people would return before sunset. He said that they have also arrested those responsible for firing at traffic wardens recently.

The session was also witnessed by Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah who was present in the visitor’s gallery.
