LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday slammed detractors of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) government, urging them not to sow the seeds of the politics of division.

He was speaking to Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai, who called on him here today to discuss prevailing political situation in the country.

The two leaders resolved to work together to strengthen democratic polity in the country.

Highlighting the significance of democracy, the chief minister said Pakistan came into existence as a result of a democratic struggle.

He said democracy was the name of service of people, which was impossible with mere slogans and hollow claims.

He stressed that it was responsibility of every political party to work towards strengthening democracy, which, he said, was essential for progress and prosperity of the country.

Hitting out at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan for cursing parliament in multi-party opposition protest, he said parliament should be accorded due respect.

The chief minister urged that personal interests should be subsidiary in comparison to the importance of national interests.

He said designs of those political elements which wanted instability in the country were not hidden from anyone.

Pakistan has been in dire need of cohesion and unity, the chief minister pointed out.
