ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) nominee for interim prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Sunday dared those who accused him of involvement in embezzlement to prove it and said whoever wanted to file a reference against him should feel free to proceed.

Addressing a news conference in Islamabad following a meeting with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, the former petroleum minister said he had disclosed all his assets and their details were published in the Pakistan Gazette.

“So those levelling baseless allegations against me should check the facts first,” he said.

Regarding the Supreme Court’s decision in Panamagate case against President PML-N Nawaz Sharif, Shahid Khaqan said the decision of the apex court had been implemented and his party was putting forth every effort for continuity of democratic process in the country now.

“We have implemented court’s decision despite our view that neither the people of Pakistan nor the international community has accepted it and even history will also not accept it,” he said expressing his reservations.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said his party was taking all decisions, including formation of cabinet, through consultation.

To a question, he said he had faith in the power of the people.

To another query, he said Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan was, is and will remain an important member of the PML-N.

Fazl stands by PML-N in testing hour

Speaking on the occasion, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said as a coalition partner his party stood by the PML-N in the testing hour.

He said after the decision of the top court, the PML N took the right decision in the best interest of the democratic process of country.

He said his party will support PML-N so that country’s journey towards progress and prosperity continues without any hurdle.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman said he has called meeting of his party for consultation and as coalition partner it will apprise the PML-N regarding its opinion and decision.

He said we all should work together to take the democratic process of the country in a forward direction.
