Shahzad, Shafiqullah powers Afghanistan to a terrific win
CHITTAGONG: Afghanistan has beaten Hong Kong by seven wickets in the qualifying round match of World T20 on Tuesday at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, ARY News reported.
Hong Kong batting first posted compatible 153 for 8 in 20 overs despite of worried start when Hong Kong’s opener Mohammad Irfan missed Shapoor Zadran's inswinger off the first ball of the innings leaving his team 0-1.
But Waqas Barkat (32) and Jamie Atkinson (31) hit back soon after with a 42-run stand.
Atkinson got out scoring 31 off 20 balls but Barkat kept his shape well at the other end, despite the two losses. He built a 60-run stand with the fidgety Mark Chapman (38), Barkat scoring at a run-a-ball and letting Chapman have more of the strike.
Afghanistan chased the target with two overs to spare losing 3 wickets.
Mohammad Shahzad hammered 68 off 53 balls to get back his lost form. The garnish on the win was provided by Shafiqullah, who blasted unbeaten 51 runs in just 24 balls. He smashed 24 runs off the 17th over, bowled by Aizaz Khan, and later helped himself to 11 off Haseeb Amjad in the following over to ensure Afghanistan won in the 18th over.
