ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Saturday lashed out at the Sharif family for terming the investigation into the money-laundering allegations against them as a conspiracy, ARY News reported.

Slamming his arch-rivals, the PTI chief said, “In truth, the Sharifs were not held to account before for they had been paying kickbacks to those conducting their accountability. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman was their (Sharif’s) personal servant who did not arrest them in corruption cases rather helped them. Thus, he ought to be taken to task for he helping criminals to commit wrongdoings.”

Flanked by the party leadership, Imran Khan was speaking to reporters here in Islamabad

Commenting on Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s appearance before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) he said the Sharif family had yet again blown the trumpet of their innocence and termed the accountability as a conspiracy against them.

Khan said Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif claimed they were being meted out unfair treatment since 1972 when their industries were overtaken by the then government under nationalization policy. However, he explained, the Sharif family was not alone whose industries were nationalized.

The PTI chief said, “The Sharif family was given back their industrial unit in return for their service for military dictator Gen Zial ul Haq and then, their factory multiplied into several other factories. Yet they are complaining they were being meted out injustice.” What kind of injustice was that when future generations of the family has become billionaires, he asked.

“When they were finally being held accountable in true sense they are crying foul and railing against the members of the JIT and the judiciary,” Khan said.

Meanwhile, PTI spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry announced on his twitter account to boycott the Jang group Saturday evening.

In a tweet he said, “Owing to a biased one sided coverage of Jang group as protest we are withdrawing our representation from all forums run by Geo group.”

The PTI chief also slammed the Jang group for what he called their biased coverage of the Panama Papers proceedings. Is that job of a media house to hide the corruption of a corrupt family,” he asked while terming the owner of the media group as “god father of media.”
