ISLAMABAD: State Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb on Wednesday deplored the accountability proceedings against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in three corruption references filed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in compliance with Supreme Court’s landmark July 28 verdict.

Talking to press outside at the federal judicial complex, Aurangzeb said the detailed verdict should have been issued by a new bench of the top court since the masses had rejected the court’s disqualification ruling on basis of possessing a foreign work permit.

“[Ex-PM] Nawaz Sharif was thrice elected as Prime Minister of the country, making the country a nuclear power has been appearing before the court in reverence for the judiciary and constitution,” the minister underlined while deploring the proceedings against him.

The people who have been defying the court orders, violating the constitutional laws are roaming freely, complained Aurangzeb without taking anyone’s name.

She said its deplorable giving a free hand to those undermining the state institutions while filing a pile of references against one having respect for the judiciary.

It would have been better if the review petition had been heard by another bench as the Sharif family and government was called ‘Sicilian mafia’ and ‘Godfather’, she added while implying a prejudice against Sharifs.
