Cash withdrawal case: SHC issues notices to IGP Sindh, DIG East and SHO

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday directed top police officers to initiate an inquiry into forced cash withdrawal by security personnel from the bank account of an under custody citizen Asif Ali, ARY News reported.

The high court issued notices to Inspector General (IG) Sindh Police, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) East and Station House Officer (SHO) Mobina Town to submit reply over the incident.

A police party led by SHO Abu Bakar was facing charges of withdrawing money from the bank account of Asif Ali who had taken into custody.

Ali’s lawyer told the court that police personnel took Rs70,000 and two mobiles from Ali’s house and withdrew Rs0.1 million through his ATM card a few days later.

SHO Abu Bakar and his team had arrested Asif on February 16 and later registered a case against the citizen after injuring him in a fake police battle, said the lawyer.

The court remarked, “This is the reason why people don’t believes on police. Inspector General should look into the matter that police injure a person, and withdraw cash as well.”

SHC judge said, “Let wait for the Inspector General Sindh’s reply then e will see what we have to do now.”

The high court asked police authorities to submit reply on March 28 after conduct a thorough inquiry and adjourned the hearing.
