SHC dismisses Nabil Gabol’s plea for security after govt assurance

KARACHI: A bench of Sindh High Court (SHC) dismissed a petition of Nabil Gabol for security on Tuesday after Sindh government’s assurance, ARY News reported.

Gabol, a former minister petitioned the court that he was facing threat to his life after leaving the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).

He sought the court order to the government for providing him security.

The government of Sindh in an assurance to the court said that he is being provided security as per the court orders.

The bench dismissed the petition after assurance from the government.

Justice Abdul Malik during hearing of the bench remarked, “We hear such news reports all the day”. There are cases of common men in courts, which also be given attention.

The protection of life of every citizen is the responsibility of the state, he added.

Former MQM MNA had rejoined Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) after quitting the MQM in February 2017.

Gabol had served as a Federal Minister in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani for the portfolio of Ministry of Ports and Shipping before quitting the PPP over differences with the party’s leadership in 2011.

He then joined the MQM and was elected as MNA from NA-246, Karachi. In early 2015, he resigned from his National Assembly seat as well as from the MQM.

He had been elected thrice as Member Provincial Assembly of Sindh and thrice as Member of the National Assembly of Pakistan.
