The SHC announced its verdict today in a petition filed against Pemra notification, imposing 15-day suspension of ARY News license.
The Pemra had issued its notification on October 3, 2014.
After hearing the arguments from ARY counsel, the SHC bench ruled that Pemra must decide the matter on legal grounds.
ARY counsel Abid Zubairi contended before the court that Pemra’s decision for suspension of ARY News license was an attempt to inflict financial losses to the channel. “The decision was made against us without even our version being heard,” he added.
He informed the court that Pemra’s acting chairman Pervez Rathore was legally entitled to issue such orders.
