KARACHI: The Sindh High Court has turned down a request by the provincial government to nominate a judge to carry out investigation into the murder of teenager Intizar Ahmed by the Anti-Car Lifting Cells (ACLAC) personnel in Karachi.
The home department had requested SHC Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M Sheikh to assign a judicial officer for an inquiry into the death of 19-year-old Intizar Ahmed.
However, the chief justice returned the request citing Section 22-A and 24 read with Section-22-B of the Pakistan Penal Code.
According to the above-mentioned sections, the district and sessions judges concerned have been empowered to take up such matters themselves or nominate any additional district and sessions judges for the purpose.
Intizar Ahmed was shot and killed by armed ACLC personnel upon failure to stop his vehicle after being signaled by them in Defence Housing Authority’s (DHA) Khayaban-i-Bukhari area.
Inspector Tariq Mehmood, SHO of ACLC police station, Inspector Azhar Ahsan Rizvi, head constables Ghulam Abbas and Shahid, constables Fawad Khan and three others have been arrested for their alleged role in the death of the teenager.
The parents of the slain student allege the ACLC personnel fired at their son with an intention of killing him.
Intizar was their only son and had recently come back from Malaysia, they said. He claimed the police were attempting to present the murder of his son as an accidental death.
