KARACHI: A call-up notice issued to a corruption suspect to appear before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for questioning turned out to be fictitious, the accused’s lawyer informed the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday, ARY News reported.

Taking exception to issuance of the fake call-up notice to the accused, a two-judge bench headed by SHC Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M Sheikh summoned the NAB Karachi director general and deputy director to explain their position.

Accused Shamshad Ali’s lawyer informed the bench that the call-up notice issued to his client by NAB is fake.

Expressing displeasure over the corruption watchdog, the chief justice questioned if someone from NAB was involved in issuance of the notice.

He further asked why the bureau didn’t probe into the matter to fix the responsibility. “Who is serving NAB’s fake call-up notices on people?”

Apparently, someone from NAB is involved in serving the fake notice, Justice Sheikh observed.

The chief justice vowed not to let those issuing forged notices go scott-free.

The hearing was adjourned until April 12.
