LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Wednesday that the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) charges of money laundering against Nawaz Sharif have tarnished the bureau’s repute.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President talking to media in Lahore stated that the allegation leveled by NAB against his brother should be probed, as even the State Bank of Pakistan and World Bank have already rejected the report on which NAB’s announcement of probe was based.

Shehbaz was speaking in the context of the notice taken by NAB Chairman Javed Iqbal, lately; on a two-year old World Bank report about alleged $4.9 billion money laundering to India by Nawaz Sharif. “NAB’s decision to initiate an inquiry against Nawaz Sharif on the matter, despite the fact that both – State Bank and World Bank – have dismissed the report about money laundering, is only going to damagingly affect NAB’s performance,” the chief minister said.

While referring to a recent comment by Javed Iqbal that NAB’s sun is shining over the whole Pakistan, not just Punjab, Shehbaz retorted that the anti-graft watchdog’s sun has been covered by clouds in other provinces.

Chaudhry Nisar is a friend: Shehbaz

During media talk, Shehbaz Sharif asserted that Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan is his friend and he hopes him to end his reservations with the party.

While targeting his political opponents, Shehbaz criticized Imran Khan and Asif Ali Zardari of poor performances of their parties’ governments in their respective provinces.
