Shehla Raza’s move provokes MQM protest in Sindh Assembly
KARACHI: Commotion was witnessed in the Sindh Assembly on Monday when a minority lawmaker belonging to MQM was barred from speaking in contravention of the directives of Deputy Speaker Shehla Raza, ARY News reported.
MQM MPA Dewaan Chand rose to speak on issues facing the minorities across the province, but Deputy Speaker Shehla Raza asked him to take his seat. Failing to get her request complied with, Ms Raza ordered MPA’s mike should be disconnected.
It was a moment when MQM legislators rose to their seats and shouted in unison against the order of deputy speaker. Ms Raza adjourned the session for 10 minutes. As soon the house reassembled after a brief recess, Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani came to preside over the proceedings and MQM lawmakers welcomed him with loud desk-thumping.
Similarly when Shehla Raza entered the house, PPP legislators welcomed her by thumping their desks actively.
Speaking outside the assembly building, MQM MPA Khawaja Izharul Hassan also deplored the attitude of deputy speaker and reiterated she should have allowed the minority MPA to voice his grievances.
