RAWALPINDI: Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Friday condemned Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal for his criticism of the armed forces analysis of the economy.
In a video statement, the AML chief said the Chief of Army Staff General Qammar Javed Bajwa has spoken the sentiments of the people while addressing a seminar in Karachi.
“It is unfortunate that interior minister is giving statements against the ISPR,” he said. “The statements of army chief has affected him. However, these are the sentiments of the people.”
The army chief while addressing a seminar on the interplay between the economy and security has expressed concern about Pakistan ‘sky-high’ debt and mixed indicators in the economy.
“If economy is strong then defence is strengthened, and the foreign policy is independent,” Sheikh Rashid said
He said the ‘Gang of Five’ are issuing statements against the army and judiciary as part of an international conspiracy.
He further said the interior minister failed to protect the law, court and judges, referring to the incident when a policeman was assaulted outside an accountability court during the appearance of Maryam Nawaz and Captain (retd) Safdar.
“We should be grateful they did not harm the judge,” he said.
Sheikh Rashid claimed the government has increased the debt by 35.3 bn dollars in the past four years, while 40 bn dollars was borrowed in the lasty sevent years.
He said the nation’s economy and exports remain in shambles, while the government has commited immense in the LNG case.
