ISLAMABAD: A sub-committee of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Thursday observed that performance of different government institutions on financial front wasn’t up-to-the-mark, ARY News reported.

The sub-committee headed by Sherry Rehman reviewed the audit paras Pakistan Meteorological Department in the year 2015-16 and  noted that at least 50 employees were hired in the PMD the same year and they were subsequently sent abroad for training with a budget of Rs 180 million.

The committee said it transpired during investigation that old officers were sent for the training instead of newly recruited ones.

The sub-committee also questioned secretary aviation division over a case of financial irregularity and granted him two weeks time to file a reply.

Rehman said the practice of issuing supplementary grants for departments should now end. “We hope the National Assembly members will help in legislation in this regard,” she added.

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) meeting had also taken up audit files of alleged financial irregularities in the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

The committee members went through audit papers of the CAA. Shehbaz ordered that audit of irregularities below Rs 50 million would be conducted by a sub-committee that was formed after the orders of the PAC head.
