KARACHI: Karachi Kings head coach Mickey Arthur hoped pace bowler Usman Shinwari will learn from the bitter experience of delivering a no-ball which tied the match against Lahore Qalandars before they lost in Super over in Dubai on Sunday.
Needing 16 to overhaul Karachi Kings’s 163-5, Lahore batsman Sohail Akhtar took a couple, hit a boundary and then smashed a six to bring the target to four off the last three balls. Mitchell McClenaghan was then run out off the fourth delivery.
Gulraiz Sadaf took a single to give Sohail a chance to wipe out the three needed for win off the last ball. Sohail hoisted the last delivery to long-on where Ravi Bopara completed a brilliant catch.
As Karachi Kings started to celebrate the television umpire called “no ball” leaving two to win off the last ball but Sadaf was run out as they tried to take a couple, leaving the scores tied.
Lahore won the Super over by three runs, by scoring 11 and then conceding just eight in Sunial Narine’s over.
Arthur hoped all the players will learn from experiences in the PSL.
“We will sit down and assess,” said Arthur whose team need a win in one of their two matches to qualify for the play-offs. :”We made a lot of eeros, we cant get away from that. We will sit down and play at he back end of the tournament and in essence this is what the competition is and a development opportunity for our players. I though Shinwari will learn from this experience and he was devastated in the change room.”
Arthur praised Lahore batsman Agha Salman for his enterprising 50 in Lahore’s innings.
“Salman played well so he will also learn and I am happy that some players are developing in front of the massive audience and as long as the players are developing I am happy,” said Arthur, who is also Pakistan’s head coach.
Arthur hopes his team will still finish in top two.
“The destiny is in our hands, we have two games we playing goof enough cricket. It was a fantastic match which a tournament needed,” said Arthur.
Arthur hoped skipper Imad Wasim will be okay after hurting his head while taking a catch in the penultimate over.
“Imad has gone to hospital for CT scans he will be under observation but he seems okay.”Arthur said reverse swing in Karachi’s last ten overs made scoring difficult, as they managed just 77 in the last ten, after 85 in the first ten overs.
I think the ball started to reverse swing and that made scoring runs tough at the back end. The pitch was abrasive and it was tough to score but we were a bot ten runs shot. We defended well not been for the no-ball.
“You cant sit and grumble and people watching at home would be at the edge of their seats. It generates massive interest.”
