The incident occurred the other day when the Muslim caterer did not prepare a meal as per the wish of a Shiv Sena lawmaker. The lawmaker forced Arshad Zubair, the canteen supervisor, to eat roti in an attempt to break his fast, a move that was widely condemned.
The inhumane episode led to chaos in the Lok Sabha. Other lawmakers strongly condemned the incident and demanded action against the responsible persons concerned.
“These are false allegations. We were protesting against poor service and bad food, that’s all,” said the Shiv Sena’s Shrikant Shinde, who was among the group of MPs involved in the controversy.
On the other side, the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Company stopped supplying food to the State Guest House in protest.
