LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi on Friday announced the appointment of former speedster Shoaib Akhtar as his adviser on cricket affairs and the board’s brand ambassador, ARY News reported.

“Shoaib Akhtar has been appointed Advisor to Chairman on Cricket Affairs/Brand Ambassador PCB,” Najam Sethi tweeted on Friday.

The tweet, with no details regarding the scope of these positions, was received well by former fast bowler who replied that he feels “honored to be chosen for these positions” and vowed to work for the board with the same passion as he did when playing for Pakistan.

“Looking forward to work with Najam Sethi and PCB to take Pakistan cricket to next level,” Shoaib said in another tweet.

Shoaib, who retired after Pakistan’s 2011 World Cup defeat, was widely recognised as the fastest bowler of his time, with his quickest recorded delivery being 161.4 kms an hour.  He played in 46 tests and 163 one-day internationals and had taken 178 test wickets and 247 one-day international wickets in his glorious career.
