GUJRAT: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Tuesday narrowly escaped a shoe attack during a party rally in Gujrat city of Punjab province, ARY News reported.

According to ARY News correspondent, Imran Khan was speaking to party workers in Gujrat when a man hurled a shoe at him, which did not hit the PTI chief but party leader Aleem Khan in the chest.

PTI workers immediately overpowered the attacker and handed him over to police. Reports suggest Imran Khan angrily abandoned his address and came down from the stage after the attack.

“If I have to take a bullet in protecting my Chairman, I will take that as well , so listen PML-N losers your time is over!” Aleem Khan wrote on Twitter soon after the incident.

PTI has so far not blamed anyone for the attack.

This is the third such attack in this week when a political leader is attacked with shoe or ink.

On Sunday, March 11, a man hurled a shoe at PML-N leader and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif during an event in Lahore’s Jamia Naeemia. On Saturday, Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif was attacked with black ink during a party workers convention in Sialkot city.

Last month, a man hurled his shoe at Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal while he was addressing a party workers’ convention in Narowal city of the province. The man was arrested but Iqbal asked police to release him without charge.

All political parties have condemned such attacks on politicians.
