SIC files petition in Supreme Court against Geo

ISLAMABAD: Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) has filed a petition in Supreme Court against Geo television channel for telecasting a blasphemous programme, ARY News reported on Saturday.

Chief of SIC Sahibzada Hamid Raza has filed petition under Article 184 (3) seeking ban on the news channel and court proceedings against the management of Geo for spreading religious hatred.

The petitioner has made the owner of the television channel Mir Shakil-ur-Rehman, programme's host Shaista Lodhi, actress Veena Malik and her husband Assad Bashir Khattak as party in the case.

The petitioner has alleged that Geo television network in its morning show hosted by Shaista Lodhi transmitted the objectionable content, which comes in the category of the blasphemy.

The programme has hit the sentiments of thousands of Muslams and spread religious hatred, petition said.

The petitioner has pleaded for registration of case against the management of the channel and other responsible persons for spreading religious hatred and under terrorism charges. He also pleaded for ban on transmissions of the television channel.
