KARACHI: Sindh Local Bodies Minister Saeed Ghani on Thursday said that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government is trying to evolve a people-friendly system for resolution of civic issues, ARY News reported.

Addressing media in Karachi, the minister said that he is aware of all the issues people of the metropolis are facing including water shortage and will try to evolve a system in which complainants can directly approach him.

Answering a question about his “lack of coordination” with Karachi Mayor and stoppage of development funds, the minister denied stopping the funds and clarified that he has no issues with any public representative.

“The Sindh government issues a grant of Rs 450 million every month to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC),” said Ghani, adding that if anyone has any evidence regarding stoppage of funds, he should come forward.

He maintained that the government is supporting not hindering the work of KMC and local government representatives.

The SBCA and KDA offices’ raid

Earlier in the day, the minister raided the offices of Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) and Karachi Development Authority (KDA) and found that most of the officers were absent including the Director General SBCA.

The minister ordered to issue show-cause notices to all the officers who were absent from their duty.

“I was told that the DG SBCA is in a meeting. I will check if there was actually a meeting otherwise action will be take against him,” said Ghani.

It is pertinent to note here that Ghani, since he assumed charge, had directed all the Sindh government officers to duly attend their respective offices and serve public otherwise due action will be taken.
