Sindh govt launches inquiry against 18 PSP officers over graft charges

KARACHI: The government of Sindh announced to launch an inquiry against 18 top officers of Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) over charges involving corruption and illegal appointments.

A letter was written by Sindh government’s Services and General Admin Department to the Establishment Division to initiate the inquiry against 18 top officials of police.

The involvement of these 18 police officers in illegal appointments was declared by the Supreme Court’s inquiry committee, the letter cited.

The illegal appointments were made in Sukkur, Larkana and Benazirbad by these high-ranked police officers, the letter added.

Sain Rakhio Mirani, Khadim Hussain Rind, Javed Alam Odho, Sharjeel Kharal, Abdullah Sheikh, Javed Jiskani, Aitzaz Goraya, Pir Muhammad Shah, Pervaiz Chandio, Usman Ghani and Nasir Aftab are among the officers alleged of irregularities against whom inquiry has been ordered by the provincial government, according to the letter.

Moreover, the letter suggested that an inquiry be conducted against Umar Farooq Salamat, Khalid Korai, Zafar Iqbal, Fida Hussain Shah, Altaf Hussain Leghari, Junaid Shaikh and Imdad Ali Shah.

On the other hand, Dr Kaleem Imam recently took charge as new Inspector General (IG) Sindh on September 12, replacing Amjad Javed Saleemi as the province’s top cop.

Following the posting of new IG Sindh, major reshuffle is expected within the Sindh Police department, as per the sources.

Mr. Imam has said that a professional approach is being adopted to improve policing across the province.
