Sindh govt to unveil budget today

KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah will present the budget for the fiscal year 2018-19 in the provincial assembly today with an expected outlay of over Rs1.12 trillion.

According to reports, around Rs282 billion has been allocated for the Annual Development Programme in addition to Rs30 billion that has been earmarked for district packages and Rs50 billion for new schemes.

It is learnt that the government has estimated Rs120 billion in recovery from the sales tax on services and expects to receive Rs665 billion from the federal divisible pool.

CM Murad Ali Shah had said that the federal government has not yet released complete funds for the ongoing fiscal year which was estimated to be Rs627 billion.

It is also reported that the government employees will see a rise in their salaries by 13% to 15%.

According to CM Sindh in his recent media talk, he said: “We will present the budget for a three-month period up to September 30 and not for the full financial year.”

He also stated that “The next elected government will have to get the budget for the following nine months approved by the provincial assembly.”

Chief Minister said that he feels immense pride as Pakistan Peoples Party is presenting the sixth annual budget of the province. “We have tried our best to resolve the problems of people in Sindh,” he said.

Opposition leader Khawaja Izharul Hasan while addressing the Media said that: “In the last five years, the government has looted and plundered [Sindh]. Hardly 50% of the development budget of the current fiscal year has been utilized. We will protest if the government fails to provide relief to the people.”
